Technology and Positive Behavioral Goals
Thank you for your interest in our research study! We are investigating how AI virtual coaches can help people incorporate wellness behaviors in their day-to-day life.

What's Involved
If you choose to participate in this study, it will take ~2 hours over 4 days. You will visit our laboratory twice, two days apart, and complete surveys before each session.​

First survey: After scheduling your laboratory visits, you will complete an initial survey about yourself (~30 minutes)

First appointment: In our lab, you will watch a short video and interact with our AI avatar named Ellie (30 minutes)

Second survey: The following day, you will be asked to complete an online survey about your day (~30 minutes)

Second appointment: In our lab, you will complete a series of tasks and meet another student (30-35 minutes)​

Compensation
You can earn $25 for participating in this study.
​
In order to be eligible for compensation, participants must complete at least the introductory survey and first lab session. After that, compensation will be pro-rated based on completion of each step of the study, following the schedule below:
Introductory survey + first laboratory session: $5
Additional at-home survey: $6
Second laboratory session: $6
Complete data payment (if all steps complete): $8
Total compensation = $25
Participants will receive compensation in the form of one cash payment at the end of the study.

Please note that if you are participating in this study as part of the UNC Psychology and Neuroscience Research Participant Pool, you will earn up to 2 credits, which is in place of cash compensation. More information about this is provided on our Participant Pool study webpage.
COVID-19 Information
This study has been approved to continue during COVID-19. We are implementing precautions to ensure the safety of our staff and participants, including:

Screening staff and participants for COVID-19 symptoms before visits

Equipping rooms with HEPA filters

Sanitizing rooms and equipment between each session
